It's been a while since I have read an Amish book. After reading The Winnowing Season by Cindy Woodsmall, I found myself wondering why I waited so long. This book reminded me of all of the many little reasons I love a great Amish read!
The book takes off right from where Book one of the Amish Vines and Orchards left off.
Rhoda Byler is looking for a fresh start. Ready to move to Maine and begin a brand new life, with her boyfriend Jacob and his brother Samuel who is also her new business partner. Starting up a new Amish Community, where she can practice her talents in horticulture in peace as well as hoping to stay away from those who feel her gifts in intuition are reasons to be shunned.
Just as Rhoda's life seems to be headed in a much better direction. She gets slammed with an unwelcoming surprise and realizes she can't catch a break. First betrayed by her friend, and then comes the discovery of the hidden secrets the man she is supposed to have a future with is hiding from her. Will things work out, or all come crashing down on her? Is her new beginning going to work out or only cause her additional conflict and heartache?
Cindy Woodsmall weaves a beautiful story! I loved the personalities of Rhoda, Jacob and Samuel. From page one, they'll feel exactly like real people to you. Cindy brings you into their story so much you'll root for each character and each of their heart wrenching paths and choices. The descriptions and imagery are incredibly written. You'll feel like you are right there in this new journey in Maine and the Orchards they are working to rebuild.
I highly recommend The Winnowing Season to any reader who enjoys a fabulous Amish read. If you have never read an Amish book, this series is definitely a great one to start with. Even though this book is fiction. It allows you a real insight into the Amish world and the real struggles they go through as well as the amazing faith they have to live the simple life they chose. This book will leave you on a positive note wanting for more! I can see why this book has hit the New York Times Bestsellers List!!!
I'd love it if you'd take a second and rank my review below
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. I was not required to write a positive review, all thoughts are my own.
