Book Review Deception by C.J. Redwine

Deception by C.J. Redwine is actually book #2 in the Defiance series.  I loved the first book and I was really excited for the sequel to come out.  It picks up pretty much exactly where the last book left off.

Rachel and Logan are now leading the people of Baalboden.  In a race between their small group and the Commander and Carrington's army following in quick pursuit.  It quickly from the start becomes a game of not only speed in walking a large amount of people across to another land, but also a game of who can outwit whom.

Their chances are slim, since most of the people with them have never had to stand in battle or consider anything outside of their own trades.  Logan takes over as leader of the people, and Rachel becomes more of a military trainer for them.

Rachel is a bit more broken down in this sequel, not quite as strong and defiant as she was in the first book.  She allows her emotions to take control of her and her hatred for the Commander to consume her.  Putting not only her own life at risk, but others who love and care for her.

Logan's biggest problem isn't keeping track of Rachel and making sure she doesn't go off to kill the Commander alone.  There is someone within their ranks who is out to destroy and sabotage them from within.  Logan's will is put to the test time and time again as he's not only being hunted by his enemies but as their own undercover murder in their midst.  It becomes a race to get his people to safety, figure out who among them is killing them off and seeing if his love with Rachel can stand all the tests life is throwing at them.

Although I found Deception to be a little bit of a slower start.  Once the book got going things picked up, and I found myself enjoying this sequel almost as much as the first.  There is plenty of action and twists to keep your attention.  I knew the book would be left at a cliff hanger, and that was probably the worst part about it because now I will have to wait until next year to see how it ends.

Deception is a Young Adult Dystopian Fantasy, filled with lots of action, courage and love.  If you haven't started this series, I highly recommend it!  I fell in love with Rachel and Logan last year when I read Defiance, and I can't wait to see how it all ends.

  1. What a gorgeous cover! Ugh. I hate cliffhangers--at the end of a book. If I know the author's going to do that, I will wait until the last book comes out before reading it. If I have time. There is a risk I won't come back. There are so many great books out there that don't jerk the reader around. lol

    1. It really is a gorgeous cover! I do the same thing at time, if I know its a trilogy or something and I have other things to read I might hold off a bit so I don't have to wait years to find out how it ends:)
