Last Chance to Join Us

Have a fitness or healthy living related giveaway item to giveaway and promote?
You have until the end of Tuesday May 3rd to consider linking up with us.

FYI: This is the last giveaway hop until September!

The Fun in the Sun Giveaway Hop will be starting this Thursday.
We already have a fabulous line up of awesome bloggers joined up, and if you want to participate we'd love to have your name added to our list.

Why join a giveaway hop?

Because being in a giveaway hop brings more potential new blog followers to your site. It brings more eyeballs to your client or sponsors product and it brings a higher number of entries than if you hosted alone.

If you've participated in one of my giveaways before, then you probably already understand the rules. So if you have a giveaway item that fits with the theme of this hop, and have time to create your giveaway post before Thursday, then you should definitely consider adding your name to the list below.

If this is going to be your first time, then before you join PLEASE look over the rules HERE and make sure you can comply before linking up with us.
The rules are simple and easy to follow and the key to us having a successful hop.

If you'd like to join, we'd love to have you!
If not, maybe next time!

Linking up today, you'll get your welcome email and all the details later tonight.

5 Reason's YOU Should Join Us

Today I am linking up with the fabulously talented ladies who host the Friday Five.
Eat Pray Run DC, Mar On The Run and You Signed Up For WHAT.

I am going to go off on my own topic today, to of course shamelessly promote our Shape Up For Summer Giveaway Hop.

So here it is, 5 reason's YOU should join myself and Healthy Disney Family and all our other wonderful participants in the next giveaway hop.

BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT WAY TO GROW YOUR BLOG

Generally others participating are also interested in growing their blog.  The idea behind a giveaway hop is, one bloggers followers will enter their giveaway.  Then after they will click on the link to the next blog in the giveaway, and enter theirs.  So each blogger participating brings their potential followers, and those followers may be coming to visit your blog for the first time, and who knows if they like you, they may just keep on coming back.  Esentially helping you grow your blog!

IT STARTS JUNE 1st

Yes, it starts on June 1st, and runs through the 14th.  Which means you have a little time to prepare and get ready in advance.
(However, you can only sign up to join us between now and next week on May 28th.)

IT'S A GREAT WAY TO MEET OTHER BLOGGERS

It really is a great way to meet other bloggers.  Since this is a Fitness themed base hop, all those who are joining up.  Will all be giving away fitness related items.  Generally that mean, they have some type of healthy living blog.
I have met a lot of new friends, great blogger friends through these giveaway hops.  I know others have too, because so many have told me how great of an opportunity it was for them to meet other bloggers and increase their readership and followers.

ITS A GREAT WAY TO GROW YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCE

That's right, it's not only a great way to increase your page views.  But you can also use it to build your Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram following base.  Due to Facebook rules, you can't really use it to directly increase your followers, but you can use it to increase you Facebook pageviews.
Building your following base on social media, is a great way to help build your access and reach to others.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE AN EXPENSIVE ITEM TO GIVEAWAY

I get this question a lot, some just don't know what to giveaway.  They think they either have to have something big and amazing.
While some bloggers secure deals with fitness related companies to giveaway one of their products.  The truth is, you don't have to have something fancy to giveaway.
In fact, some of the most successful giveaways, are just gift cards, for a winner to use to buy what they want.
Not only that, but a gift card can be used both US and Internationally, and why not build an international following base...
Since the item being given away must be valued at $10 or more.  If you're not sure what to giveaway, why not just make it simple.  Giveaway a $10 or more gift card to Amazon, or a large sporting goods stores.

Okay, now that I have given you 5 reason's to join us, why not give it a try and have some fun with us in June!
If you haven't joined us before, it is very important you READ HERE FIRST and go over all the rules, and make sure you are okay to comply.
If you are, then here is the sign up, like I said we would seriously LOVE to have you and your wonderful blog join us, you can join easily in the link below.

Blog Link Up and Blog Hop Etiquette

I get emails all the time by new bloggers who say something along the lines of.  I would love to join your link up, but I am a new blog is that okay?  (The answer to that is always, of course!)
Or they will ask questions, about what it is, and how they are supposed to participate. So this is to answer the questions of those who just aren't sure what they are or how to participate.

One thing to keep in mind as you read my tips and suggestions.  These are MY opinion, it doesn't mean you have to follow it exactly, and it doesn't mean there aren't other ways.
However, I have found success in what I do, so if you consider them it may set you on the right track especially if you have questions about them and how they work.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOP AND A LINK UP

Although there are several kinds of each out there.  Mostly you'll find the difference in this:

Link Up's - Usually these are 1 day link ups, or some even have weekly link ups.  You'll have a host(s), who may or may not have rules on what types of blogs/posts can link up.  You will link up a current post that you created specifically with their link up topic in mind.  You should always comment on the host post, and then visit as many other bloggers in the link up that join for that day an comment on their blogs.

Blog Hop's - Generally these are mini events, a group of blogs who join up together to host or do something. And everyone in that group will write posts on that "said" topic, launch them as directed. There are usually links to every one's blog on every one's blog post(s) so that viewers can hop from one blog to the next easily.

_________________________________

Although their are some differences in them, they are the same in one aspect.  They are both great chances to network and grow your blog while meeting others.

MY DO's and DON'T's of LINK UP ETIQUETTE

DO Link up if you're new to blogging, or looking to meet other bloggers and have time to participate.

DON'T Link up, just to link up.  Make sure you have time to visit at least 3-4 of the other bloggers that day who are in the link up and leave a comment on their blog.

DO Link up a relative topic.  If a link up has a theme.  Make sure the post you link up falls within the topic or guidelines.

DON'T Link up an old post, unless the host has specified it is okay.  Generally link ups are for new posts on specific topics and not posts you linked up in weeks past, or something you wrote a year ago.  TIP: If you wrote a great post in the past, and want to link it up.  Why not re-write it, freshen it up and improve on it and recreate it as as a brand new?

DON'T Link up posts that have nothing to do with the hop.  If you do, expect to have the host roll their eyes as they may or may not delete you from their link up. (You break the rules too many times, you can expect to be banned or asked to not link up with that link up.)

DO visit and comment on the host or host's posts. Not doing so is just rude and shame on you:)

DON'T take a minute to link up, and have no intention of doing anything else.

DO take the time to visit any other new/old blogger who took the time to visit your blog and comment as part of the link up.  Also, make sure you are responding to the comments left on your blog post you linked up.  DO leave a thoughtful comment that shows you read their posts, DON'T leave 1-2 words or say something like, "nice post".

DON'T be the blogger who joins but is totally in it for themselves and is clueless about the rest.

DO be the blogger who sets a name for themselves by networking in these opportunities.  Trust me others notice, especially the hosts. Want to grow your blog, these are one of the best opportunities IF you are playing by the rules.

DON'T join a blog hop and forget you joined and forget to participate.  Bloggers who host these take a lot of time out of their schedules to make these things run smoothly.  If your not sure what your signing up for, then don't or wait until you do.  Or wait to sign up until you know you're schedule will allow it.  If you are confused, ask the host or email them, they want others to join so they will gladly try to help you any way they can!

DO join a blog hop and participate fully.  Usually these can last 1-2 weeks on average so this gives each blogger plenty of time to visit as many if not all of the other participants in the hop.  If its a giveaway hop even if you're not interested in a particular giveaway, it's always a nice thing to stop by and even if anything just leave a nice comment.

DON'T join blog hops or link ups and visit the blogs to share any negativity.  We may or may not agree with what a blogger is writing.  But when you are linking up, this is supposed to be a fun networking opportunity, this is not the time to ridicule or be rude.  You don't have to agree, but you should be polite when you participate in these as they are supposed to be fun:)

DO mention or add a link to the hosts blog.  This is not (usually) a requirement, but it's a really kind thing to do. As a way of saying "thank you for taking the time to create this and host this."

DON'T link up a post, and have one post for several link-up's.  I've seen this so often, where someone will link up and mention one host at the top, and another at the bottom for the same day and sometimes the post fits only one or neither link up requirements.
This is one of those things where their may be a little gray area as some hosts may not mind (ask them if needed).  But when I have talked to other host bloggers, we seem to agree.  You should generally pick one link up, for your one post that day.  If you want to do more than one, then link up one of your other relative posts, or maybe it's a double blogging day for you:)

DO have fun with them, that is the whole point!

_________________________________

There are several types of bloggers out there, and there is nothing wrong with any kind.  But if you're joining a link up, or a blog hop one would assume you are interested in growing your blog and meeting other bloggers.  At least that is what the majority of the others linking up are doing.

If this doesn't sound like you, then link up's and hop's are probably not for you and that is okay too. Not everyone is interested in growing their blogging friendships, and not everyone is interested in meeting other bloggers.

Hopefully this gives a little clarification.  I know I was fairly to the point on my Do's and Don't and I did not write to offend anyone.  Or hurt any one's feelings if they link up and didn't realize all they should be doing or not.

This is just one of those subjects that its so much easier to explain by being frank instead of beating around the bush.  And like I said above, this is just my opinion:)

Another thing to consider, if you are not sure what is required or what isn't of a link up.  Or your not sure about the rules.  Just email the host, or ask them on their blog.

Host's generally want their link ups to be as successful as possible for everyone involved, and we don't mind answering your questions especially if it means adding a great new "follows the rules" participant to it!

Do you participate in link ups?  Do you host link ups?  Do you have any other Do's or Don't comments to add?

Grow Your Blog, Blog Hop

I'm hosting a Grow Your Blog, Blog Hop in February. I'd love it if you'd like to consider joining me and others in this great Networking opportunity!

(1/21/15 UPDATE: I am going to cap this off at 40, participants.  We are almost there, so if your thinking of joining join us you will want to join soon.)

You might be wondering, how does Runaway Bridal Planner know how to grow a blog, her blog isn't one of the biggest.

If you are thinking that, your right.  I don't have one of the biggest blogs out there, but in the past few years I have gone from a couple of page views a week to thousands.

To a larger blog, this might not sound impressive, but for a smaller blog I am pretty darn proud of how things are going.  It makes me feel like I have a decent idea on how to grow a blog.  What I am doing is working, it's not easy, its a lot of work (fun work), but it is working!
My goal for this hop, is to let you all in on what I have done.  How you can build your blog and grow your audience even if at one stepping stone at a time.

What have I learned this past year that has helped me do this?  A simple thing, the understanding and knowledge of Networking!
It's not always about the numbers, it's about the relationships you build.  You know the term, "It's all who you know."  Well in some ways that DOES ring true in blogging.
Good networking relationships in blogging can actually turn into finding more and more future relationships.  When your interacting with one blogger, and others see you time after time, it draws their interest and sometimes they come visit your blog just to see what your all about.
If your lucky, you might even end up finding a few new friendships out of it too!

To do this, you have to have a foundation to build on.  Most people start with a blog, and then venture into other area's of social media marketing.

Any size blog is welcome to join the hop!  However, bloggers who aren't receiving millions of pageviews each month will probably find this growth opportunity to be the most beneficial!

I'd love it if you'd like to join up and participate!  However, please make sure you read through this entire post (sorry it's long I know) and make sure you are okay and can agree and commit to the time in February to do this.
If you are not sure, don't sign up!
If you need to think about it, just bookmark it and come back later.  I am leaving the sign up, up for 3 weeks.

4 SIMPLE RULES TO JOIN

#1  Any type of blogger can participate, however, to keep it comfortable for everyone participating  your blog must be considered family friendly, no nude or erotica are allowed.  All blog participant submissions will be reviewed before your name is added to the official list.

#2  It is a requirement that you participate in the comment exchange portion of the hop.  I know blogging takes time, and growing your blog takes even more time too. So when I set this up I didn't want it to feel overwhelming to anyone.  I also wanted to make it as easy as possible.  But it also wouldn't be fair if you signed up to participate, and others are commenting and sharing your blog and social media mentions if you aren't doing the same with their blogs.
I estimate that this will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes additionally from your day. (*see below if you can't participate daily.)
You'll be on the honor code that you'll participate each week and help grow others blogs as they are doing for you!  However, if it becomes obvious that you are not participating.  I reserve the right to delete your blog from the group.  Also keep in mind others are likely to notice first that they are participating and you are not.  If your looking to develop new blogging relationships keep in mind that others will notice what you do and don't!

#3  You'll need to be okay with receiving a daily email from me in February.  You'll receive an initial email welcoming you to the blog hop.  An email the last week in January to let you know what date(s) your blog will be spotlighted in Feb (to give you time to prepare).  Then the daily emails will start Feb 1st-28th as we all begin Networking, it will be your list of to do's for that day.

#4  You must post on your blog at least ONCE a week each week in February.  You can also post daily! You are NOT required to post any more than normal, after all it's your blog it needs to ring true to how you want it to be, which is why there is no other requirements than to post at least once a week!

How it All Works

The object of joining this is to grow your blog and get it out there in front of different eyeballs in the form of Networking.
Getting your messages shared via different people, different ways at different times.  We all have different blogs and different followers, and we can all help share each others blog and messages to, so together we will help grow each others blogs, social media mentions and posts.

We will focus on these Networking areas:
* 1 day (possibly 2) in Feb your post will be featured and commented and shared by all.
* Twitter Follows & Retweets
* Facebook Page Likes, Post Likes & Shares
* Pinterest, Board Following, Image Pinning
* Instagram Followes, Likes
* Thoughtful blog comments

What do you need to know now to join?

* Optional, pull your google analytics or whichever reporting system you use to track your blogs page views and other statistics.  Pull your average monthly numbers and set them aside.  After the hop is over, I want you to compare them to your February results from the hop so you can see the difference!  (Also may want to make note of your social media numbers to see the growth there too.)

*  You MUST commit to blogging at least once each week in February.  Blog as you normally do, although their will be a few weekly suggested theme post ideas, they will be entirely optional.  You blog how you want to blog!

* Optional, but highly recommended.  Include at least 1 pinable image in each post!  Even if you don't have or use Pinterest yourself, one thing that many bloggers do find is that Pinterest is their #1 source lead to their blog posts.  If you don't have a pinable image, then you can't have a presence on Pinterest and your losing out on new visitors to your blog.

* On January 26th you will be emailed a date for your blogs spotlighted post(s).  This will give you advanced time to create a great post for your spotlight day.  You can use it as a day to introduce yourself and your blog, or create a post on something you are passionate about.  You can do anything you'd like, its your blog its your time to shine.  I just want to give advance notice so you can prepare.
(A recommended 500 word minimum as well as at least 1 pinable image should be considered for this post! *See the Q&A below for more info on why for this part.)
Depending on how many we have sign up, their will be 1 or possibly 2 blogs spotlighted each day.
Why?  Well on this date, everyone in the blog hop will be visiting your blog and commenting on it.
(*Its okay if your busy and cannot visit a blog each day, you can play catch up during the week.  The main requirement is that by the end of the week (Midnight Saturday), you must have visited each and every blog that was spotlighted for that week.)
NOTE: I would like everyone to have 2 spotlight days, however that depends on how many we have sign up.  For sure for now plan on 1.  You'll know by the 26th if there are going to be 2.

* During the month of February you MUST be willing to leave a thoughtful comment on ALL the spotlighted blog posts (You will receive these via email weekly.)  You should also be leaving an easy way for other bloggers to find your blog when you comment.  If you don't, then you cannot complain that others are not returning a comment on your blog.  They can only comment if they can find you!  It's also highly recommended you turn OFF capitcha's or other things that can detour others from commenting.

*  During the ENTIRE month of February.  If someone comments on your blog, you MUST be willing to go back and visit their blog within 72 hours.  *Networking*  (Only if they leave a link to their blog, in your comments.  You will not be required to locate others who are not making themselves easy to find.  When you respond to their comment on your blog, just make sure you let them know you would have loved to visit their blog but they didn't leave a way for you to find them.
This rule also applies for comments that are received from others not participating in the hop.  They may have found you and taken notice from one of the comments you left on another blog.  This is all about Networking and Networking comes from many various forms.
You want to grow your blog, and this is one of those things that takes time, but can also be a lot of fun, for this hop it is required to comment and return the favor to all who visit you and take the time to share their thoughts on your post!!!

* Although you'll only be required to visit the spotlighted blogs and social pages on any given day. For Networking purposes, I highly recommend you spend as much time or even a little time if that is all you have, visiting other blogs on the list of interest to you, commenting on them.  Making new relationships.  I keep saying this, but it's all about Networking!!!!

* Only if you have these forms of social media.  Sometimes you will be sharing others posts via social media.  You'll want to make sure you use appropriate  #Hashtags.  #Hashtags are beneficial on Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram.  You can include them on Facebook, but unless they have changed things recently that I am unaware of, Facebook doesn't pick up hashtags like the others do.  If you are not familiar with these, you can learn them in a few minutes just start today.

*  Additionally, you will need to know how to re-tweet, favorite or like a post on Twitter.  Like or comment on an Instagram post.  Pin an image to a Pinterest board, pin an image to a group board.  Share, comment and like a Facebook post.  (You will only be responsible for doing this if you tell me you have and use these social media options.)

*  Optional, if you aren't on: Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook now would be a great time to sign up for accounts.  You can use the Blog Hop to help build your following base.  If you are thinking of signing up for some/all do it before you join this blog hop so your links can be included for others to use during the hop.

*  You will get an email within 48 hours of signing up for this hop.  At that time your name will be added to the official list of bloggers participating.
However, I understand if 5-15 minutes a day is too much to add to your schedule in February.  So if you can no longer participate or change your mind please email me anytime between now and January 24th and I will remove you with no questions asked.  PLEASE let me know no later than this, because I will be spending time working you into the hop schedule.  If you bail at a later date, it won't be fair to others!  In the form you fill out, that is when you'll let me know what dates in February you cannot be spotlighted.  I will do my best to work around schedules.

*  Have more questions, scroll down below to see the question and answer section for more information or contact me for the answer.

QUESTION and ANSWERS

Q- I don't have a lot of time, but I want to participate.
A- No worries, none of us have ton's of time.  I am keeping this as simple and easy as possible for everyone.  5-15 minutes should be all that is needed to do each day's requirements.

Q - What if I sign up, but I can't put effort into it every single day?
A - No problem!  It's set up to be easy, so you can do this as you have time.  You don't have to do it everyday if you don't have time. You can go in and do it on the days you do have time to focus on this.  You just have to have it all done by each Saturday.

Q- You mentioned although optional it is highly recommended that our sponsored day posts have at least 500 words and at least 1 pinnable image, why is this?
A- If you are familiar with SEO or even the term Going Viral then this is where this comes into play. In short Google searches sites/blogs and has specific algorithms to determine what posts are valid content, the ones they feel are better come up in google searches more.  Posts with very little content are the least likely to get picked up.  Although there is no rule of thumb on what is the perfect post length, some say it's somewhere around 1,500 words.
I picked 500, because that is what they consider the lower end of a good word count post, plus it sounds less overwhelming for most people.
Although it is rare, if a post goes viral several things happen.  If you notice posts that go viral when you view them, very rarely will you see short posts.  It would take too long to go into it.  But to better the chances since you'll be getting lots of page views, and pins and shares to these posts I thought I'd put it out there so if you are one of the rare lucky individuals, you're chances will be slightly higher!

Q- What if I don't have Facebook or Twitter and I only have a blog and Pinterest or some other combination?
A - No problem, the reason I had you fill out the Google Document is so I can circulate what you do have appropriately.  You will not be required to comment or share others social media channels if you don't have that particular form yourself!

Q- I only post on my blog once or twice a week is that okay, or do I need to do more?
A- You can post as much or as little as you want as long as you keep to the minimum of 1X a week.  Don't try to create posts, just for the sake of posting during the "Grow your Blog, Blog Hop".  Keep on doing what you have been doing, be real, post as you normally do.  Share content like you normally share it.  The point is to introduce your blog to everyone in it's "REAL" self.  You want people to keep on following you, so stay true to what makes your blog unique.  Don't start writing new content, on new topics or things you have no plans to blog about in the future, you won't want to confuse your potential new followers.

Q- You mentioned their will be possible blogging subjects sent out each week.
A - Yes, but they are completely optional.  One subject can bring several different variations ideas.  Since this is a "Grow Your Blog" focus, the subjects will be related to this.  You do NOT have to run any of those post topics, they are only suggestive.  However, since we all have different successes and we can all learn from each other, I am going to put the idea out there.  It's entirely up to you, if you tackle any of them!

Q- I haven't used social media in the past, if I sign up for it and it is brand new can I use it in the hop?
A- Of course, and what better way to get an immediate following!  I'd suggest joining the ones you want as soon as possible just so you are familiar with the functions and how to "like, share, comment" on things ahead of time so you feel like you know what you are doing come February 1st.

Q- I am signing up, is there anything I can do now to help me get ready for the hop?
A- Yes, As you know blogging takes time, especially writing quality posts.  Take this time in January to get a head a little, write a few posts and get them scheduled for February.  This way, you won't have to divide too much of your time between writing posts and networking with the other bloggers and assigned tasks.  This also a great time to start thinking about what you'd like your spotlighted post to be on.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments to this post.  Because likely if you have a question someone else will too.
I am sure this being my first hop of this kind, there are a few things I haven't covered that you will help me to do so.
(No question is a dumb question, I promise:)
However, if you have a question and you are not wanting others to see that you asked, feel free to email me and ask me in private.  I will respond to all comment questions, and emails daily!

Another Random Monday

Decided that I was going to go with another totally random post about my life this week.

I am not going to blog much this week, in fact this might be the only post I do!  With Thanksgiving I figure I will spend my time reading other blogs, or spending time with my family!

If your interested you have 4 days left to sign up and join us for the last hop of he year.
Our December Health & Fitness Holiday Giveaway Hop starts next week.

This is the last hop I will be hosting until March of next year.  So if you enjoy doing them, or have been thinking of giving one a try, we'd love to have you join us!

You can check out the official rules HERE, if you are okay with the terms, go ahead and sign up with us below:

I got out and went running most days this past week.  It was harder getting myself out of bed when the temp outside read 18 degrees, than it was to actually go out and run.
But truthfully, it had warmed up to 20-29 degree's for morning run temps by mid week so I really didn't have much to complain about by then:)

Last week I said I thought that being off running for the better part of 2 years made me weak, and that was answered this last week.  It did!
Truth is, I still like running in the winter, dressed correctly I hardly notice the cold... much....
It really is refreshing to get out there in it... well except ask me if my answer is the same next time I say I had to fight icy winds and storms:)

I still haven't gotten my treadmill fixed up for the occasional winter use.  I really need to get on that!  The good news is, I cleared it off.  Because, I may or may not have been using it as an extra jacket rack:)

I've still been seriously tired, I am back to taking supplements and iron pills so it's going to take some time, but at least not I am back on track to get my energy levels back up.  Of course that doesn't mean I didn't sleep in until 9am or later almost each day this past week and their may have been a few naps thrown into the days too:)  I have no shame in admitting that, apparently:)

This week I re-discovered it is so much easier to compliment and help out strangers and people you like, vs. people that get on your nerves!  However, helping someone who gets on your nerves... getting through it is almost more rewarding in some ways.  After all, they can't help being annoying, well in theory:)
Although I will say, it takes on a whole new lesson in patience, which is also always a good thing to get a lesson in!

Finally found a few good books to read this week.  Went ahead and put another series on hold at the library earlier last week and it came in.  Although I am sure because of Murphy's Law, as soon as I pick it up and get into it.  The sequels I have been waiting on, will arrive at the library for pick up:)

I usually only try to read one book a week, I reserve Sunday afternoons specifically for this:)  But Saturday was such a stormy day and since I didn't have a whole lot else going on I got through a book that day as well.

My sister got me to download a game app, and it's horrible.  But I am totally and completely addicted to it.  (This is why I don't play video games!)
I tried to stop playing it, but I can't because the stupid game doesn't have a pause button it just goes on and on and I can't help but keep playing.  I roll my eyes that I am playing it, I not only will not tell anyone which game it is, but its so embarrassing I think this is one of those things that I would actually lie to the diary about, LOL
I think this one may have brought my "dork" to a whole new level, and I curse her for it, haha!

Well I will stop there!  I hope everyone has a great week, enjoys some great times with family or good friends.  Hope you are all blessed with a week that you can sit back and remember all you are thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving!

5 Reasons to Join Our Blog Hop

Today I am linking up again with the DC Trifecta Friday Five.  Thanks to EatPrayRunDC, YouSignedUpForWhat? & MarontheRun for hosting this link-up.

Although I love their topic idea for Halloween, because after all it is Halloween.  I am going to step onto my own today and shamelessly promote and share with you 5 reason's you should join us for the Thankful For My Followers Giveaway Hop.

1.  Because where would a blogger be without it's followers?  It's a great way to offer something, even if it's a small something and say thank you for following your blog.

2.  You'll get far more entrants if you join a giveaway hop, than if you host one solo.  For instance I held a giveaway on my own last week, I did promote it, but only had just over 100 people enter.  The last giveaway hop in September that we held, I had over 900 different people enter the giveaway.  The results from previous hops have been similar and I get told from many who participate they seem a vast difference when joining a blog hop, vs hosting on their own.

3.  It's not only a great way to thank your current followers.  It's a great way to obtain new followers.  In a hop, people click on one link, enter the giveaway and then click to the next link.  When you think about all the followers each different blogger has, you can see the potential in new followers.
Additionally, its a great way for you yourself to discover new bloggers and fun new blogs you might want to follow.

4.  It's fun and easy!  This particular hop I have removed almost all the rules.  The only requirements are including the image, and of course the blog hop linky at the end of the post.  Other than that, you know your followers best, host the kind of giveaway you know your followers will like!

5.  Last reason,  today is the last day to join us.  The Linky closes at Midnight for the Thanksgiving hop.  If you are checking out this post after Friday, then I'll recommend signing up for our December hop HERE.

MCM Mama Runs and I would love to have you join us and the awesome list below of great blogs participating!
Hop starts Monday November 3rd and runs through the 17th.
(Note: If you sign up today, you will receive your instructional email, no later than tomorrow morning!)

A Little Bit of Everything

Do you ever have those times where you have a jumble of thoughts and as you go to write your blog posts, instead of one or two things you end up jumbling a little bit of everything together?
I apologize ahead of time because today is one of those days.  However, in case only a few things interest you, I put headings so you can skim and read only what you'd like:)

LAST WEEKS WORKOUTS
Monday - 6 Miles
Tuesday - Rest Day
Wednesday - 5 Miles
Thursday - 6.2 Miles
(I worked too much on my feet this week, so Friday, Saturday and of course Sunday were all rest days.  My tendon started swelling up later in the day Thursday and has been a bit painful and bothersome.  Sunday it was feeling a little better so we will see what this week brings.  I have already picked a lighter work schedule for this week (less time on my feet) so my tendon inflammation can go down and the pain can subside...hopefully...  I know there is a chance this maybe how I have to deal with it going forward.  But I can't help but have hopes and prayers that it will eventually heal and I won't have to schedule my life around it's pain and swelling levels!)

BYE BYE BLACKBERRY... OR MAYBE NOT...
Okay, so some of you know I am one of those rare people who love the Blackberry phone.  I've been loyal to the Blackberry and At&t for many years.
However, when my family got together we decided to see if we could all save some money by signing up for one of those "Family Plans". Once we looked into it, I realized for myself alone it would save me about $40 a month which is $480 a year savings and that is significant.  That pretty much was enough to push me into doing it.
Sprint does have Blackberry, but the price lets just say was several hundred more than I wanted to spend.  So I bit my bottom lip and hoped I wasn't making the biggest mistake ever and went with the Samsung Galaxy.

It wasn't 24 hours later that I was hating it and tearing up at the thought of my loss.  The things and the ease that I had before with what I used my Blackberry for, were not as easy with new phone.
Mostly I missed my keypad, and the ease it was to write up things and emails, posts...
Everyone keeps telling me I just have to get used to it.....  It's debatable at this point.  I am tempted to go and exchange my phone for a Blackberry and I have now 12 days left to do so.  The problem is, if I do, because of the price of the phone, I really wouldn't be saving much and I might as well stayed on my old plan???
Decisions, decisions.  Right now I am not sure if it is worth the savings.
Sure I will admit there are 2 pro's that I have found with my new phone.  But frankly, I am not sure they out weigh my other loss.   So I guess this decision will be, to be determined....

YEARLY TWITTER GOAL MET
In January I set a few "Blogging Goals" for myself.  Some of them were with my blog itself, others were in the form of social media.
One of them was to hit 5,000 Twitter followers.  That one snuck up on me and happened earlier this month.  That is pretty awesome, and I thrilled that so many fabulous people enjoy following me, and visa versa!

SCHEDULED POST GOALS... SLIPPING
Another goal I had was to be several weeks out in posts, except for my Monday posts.
Truthfully, I was doing fabulously all the way up until September.  I used to have 15-20 posts finished and written and scheduled to go live on their appropriate dates.
Doing this gave me the needed time I wanted so that I could spend more time following other bloggers and reading their posts and so on.
But the past month I have pretty much been doing them "day before" and I really need to take a day and spend it post writing and scheduling because I really liked when I was ahead and could spend more time chatting with my blogger friends.
Also, you've probably noticed less posts on my blog lately.  I just figured not to run posts on days I didn't have enough time to put a good effort into it.
So it is my new goal to get back on track like I was before the end of the year, starting with this week!

MAKING MONEY BLOGGING
I haven't ever talked about this one on my blog before, but yes I do enjoy blogging for fun.  But I also enjoy doing it for side money and free products I actually can and will use.
I don't earn an income that you could say is substantial by any means.  However, some months it is a great part -time job:)  if you call it that.
I had monthly goals, and lets just say they are pretty high so I haven't exactly met them yet.
However, September was a great month and at around $800 (Yes I did just put that out there.)  I am closer than I have ever been to hitting a monthly goal.  So we will see what the last 3 months of the year bring.  Also, I have done this on a Blogspot blog, which so many say you can't do, so that in itself proves that you can actually make a little money even on a free blog:)

JOBS AND CAREER GOALS
Earlier this year I shared with you that I was planning on making some major changes and I think I even mentioned I would let everyone know my plans shortly thereafter.
However, after a lot of thought I decided not to share those plans for a while.
First, I did go out and I was offered some amazing (desk) jobs.  Some that a few people think I am a complete idiot to have turned down.  Even turned down a job with a major TV network that would have been a seriously promising future in more than one way.

Why did I turn them down, especially after working so hard to get them?  Well when it came down to it, I looked at each of those jobs and I asked myself.  Money aside, will these jobs make me happy? Will I enjoy waking up and going to work each day?
When I searched my heart & soul, the answer was No.  Which is why I turned them all down.
Which put me out to thinking about what WOULD make me happy.

Now I love weddings, and I love what I do and I have zero plans on letting go of the wedding decoration company I own and love.
However, the economy has taken some hits and despite what the government says, the reality is things are not picking up and people are cutting back.  Which has given a decline in revenue, especially this year.
So yes I am looking for a new full time job, but do plan to keep being a wedding planner part time.
But not for just any job, the job has to be the right one for me.

I am not going to tell you exactly what that perfect job will be, because I haven't exactly interviewed for it yet:).  However, if you follow my blog you know that I love Running and I love Traveling and I love People and I love to be Happy!  So I have recently been setting my sights onto new things, and pursuing things in an entirely new direction, in the direction of what I listed above.
I don't need to rush, I can take my time and when I find that amazing job, and that thing that will make me happy.  I'll grab it and at that time I will share it all with you!

CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS
Okay, so this will sound odd but in the past I have tried not to share too much of my opinion and be a little more neutral (although it comes out a lot I am sure my blog followers can tell:).
The truth is, I have a strong opinion on lots of things.  I have wanted to start writing on a few running topics that not a lot of people say much about, and even when my opinion goes against "trendy current running trends."

I kept hesitating doing it, in fact if you look at my "Posts in Progress Folder" I have over 30 of them just sitting there waiting to be finished and shared.
Then the other day I was talking to a patron at the library where I work and after sharing my opinion with them I realized why not share on my blog???  After all, previous to my work injury I was able to lead a healthy running life mostly injury free for over 15 years.  I was trained by a father who ran over 30 years without injury.  So it's actually possible that even going against trends, I may have a little useful information for someone to consider:)

So my first controversial topic  is coming up Thursday.  I re-wrote it to be slightly less opinion and tie in some education with it.  So we will see how it goes, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.  Because I have a few others I have also been editing to put out in coming weeks.

BLOG HOP
This month I experimented and paid to have our blog hop listed on some National Giveaway Directories.  I haven't talked to any of those participating, but for myself I have had a significant and when I say significant, I say over 900 of more entries than in previous months.
I'll be curious to see if other bloggers noticed a spike in page views for this hop (I hope they did), and if they are having a more successful hop as well.
I fully plan on paying out of my own blog pocket:) to have the November & December hop listed in these directories too.  So if your a blogger and your interested Join up Today for our November Hop HERE.  Its open to ANY blogger, this is a hop to thank our followers, so it's one of the only "almost no rules" hops I host.

Additionally, today is the LAST day to enter the current, Get your Run On Giveaway Hop.  You have until Midnight tonight to visit and enter the 13 blogs participating.  You can start entering for your chances to win HERE.

Which leads me to my questions for you for the week.
Have you ever been hesitant to write on certain topics, because you were afraid you might offend someone?  Did you hold back or do it (tastefully) anyway?
Do you make blogging goals, even if you blog for fun?

5 Blogging Goals

Thanks to EatPrayRunDC, YouSignedUpForWhat? & MarontheRun for hosting this link-up. Today I am linking up again with The DC Trifecta Friday Five.

I'm not really ready for fall, so I almost picked a different topic.  See in Utah we have been getting a month of unsually crazy amount of daily rain storms.  Normally we can go through August without seeing many drops and temps in the high 90's.  Not so much this year, in fact our mountains actually got snow last weekend??? Which is why I am still okay with summer sticking around a bit longer.
However, there are a few things I have plans to work on this fall, so I thought I would share with you my Five Fall Blogging Goals.

INSTAGRAM
I recently signed up with an Instagram account @Runawaybridalplanner.  At first I literally couldn't see the point of it, I mean it's just pictures.  But it is slowly wearing off on me and I'm finding I am enjoying it more and more each day.  One of my goals this fall is to build my following base up on it.  So if you want to help me out, I'd love it if you'd send me a follow CLICK HERE:)  FYI I follow back!

SWITCH TO SELF HOSTED
It's been a long time debate for me, should I switch from blogspot to a self hosted .com?  Technically, I bought my domain the same time I started my blog.  But part of me didn't want to switch over until I was making enough money each month on my blog to pay for the self hosting, yes I am cheap:).
After I speak to a few people who have done the blogspot to self host switch, it's my goal to switch over sometime in the next few months.  So if your one of those blogspot people who have done it, and you'd allow me to ask you a few maybe a dozen questions, I'd love it if you'd let me know!

FIND NEW AWESOME BLOGGERS TO FOLLOW
I used to blog surf once a week and find a new blog to follow.  Then life got hectic and I realized I wasn't doing this as much.  My goal for this fall is to do this again, find 1 new blogger to follow and interact with each week.

RUNNING TIPS
Now that I am running again, and increasing my mileage weekly and slowly building back up to finish the last 19 states I have goals to run marathon's in.  I am going to start offering tips for runners on Thursday's on my blog.

BLOG HOPS
I have done a ton of research on them.  I've found lots of new ways to get all the different bloggers giveaways who have linked up to join my giveaway hops onto larger platforms to get more and different eyeballs coming to our blogs.  My goals for this fall are to double the amount of bloggers who are participating in the hops and double the amount of entrants.  I've joined up with some great co-hosts for these hops who are going to help me get the word out.  I think with a bit more pushing, that we can make these hops even bigger and better than ever before.

Speaking of which, if your a blogger and your thinking of hosting a giveaway in September, why not join up with us and have even more people visit your giveaway!  The Linky platform I use tracks page views, and the average combined blogs posts (all bloggers participating combined) receive over 15,000 pageviews on the giveaway posts during that hop.  Which for smaller blogs who are looking to grow their numbers, this could potentially give you the opportunity to find lots of new followers.
You can view the sign up details HERE.
If you agree to the rules for the hop, we'd love to have you join us in the link up below.

Those are my 5 blogging goals for this fall.  Do you set blogging goals?  What are some of your blogging goals?

My Fitness Favorites Giveaway & Blog Hop

Blog Hop
What is a blog hop?  A group of blogs linking their individual giveaways together for one big hop.  You can enter one, and then click on the link to the next and so on.  Lots of great blogs, great giveaways, and many chances to win.
Thanks to Halfmarathonmama for helping me spread the word by co-hosting this Giveaway hop.

I had the great opportunity to finally try Energybits.  I've been hearing about them for the past year, and they had my curiosity.  I wanted to know why so many people have been raving about them.  So when presented with the opportunity to try them myself, I couldn't resist!

So what are Energybits?  They are an amazing healthy choice to find additional energy and protein for your diet.  Additionally, each individual bit is only 1 calorie.  I know incredible huh, that was one of the things that drew my attention high energy and low calorie.  Additionally they have an extremely high concentration of Antioxidants and vitamin B's.

Energy
You can click on the graph above to enlarge
Energybits are 100% organically grown spirulina algae.  No sugar, no caffeine, no gluten, no additives and no animal products or chemicals.  Just 1 ingredient.

One suggested serving is 30-40 bits, and they recommend you just swallow them at first.  Although you can chew them, and I did try chewing one.  I saw then why they say they are an acquired taste. However, just swallowing them they are completely fine.

So how did I use mine?  Well I actually decided to use them one early morning instead of a meal.  I was running late getting to a wedding I was the decorator for, and I didn't have time to stop for breakfast.  If you read my blog you know I am really trying hard to adapt a more healthier eating lifestyle and gone are my days of grabbing a soda for a quick morning energy source.
Which is why I was excited to try out my Energybits.  I took a handful of 30 and downed them with a glass of water and headed out for my day.  (They are pretty small, so I was easily able to swallow about 5-7 at a time.)
(Although I should note, you can also get more creative than I did and sprinkle them on your cereal, salads or smoothies.)

Energy
Good news was, it pretty much was all I needed for the morning meal, it almost felt like I was full, I didn't have a grumbling stomach with all thoughts focused on how soon lunch would be.  At 30 calories, I was pretty surprised by this.
At a wedding I generally walk between 6-10 miles in a day, and most of that is done by carrying 20-100 pounds of equipment and decoration. So not running around hungry was a plus.  Even better at only 30 calories it had seemed like plenty of energy to do everything I needed to do that morning.

After one morning of using bits, I was sold on them!  I tried them again a week later when I was going out hiking for the day, and they again worked like I had hoped and as they say they will.

So if you haven't tried them yourself, this is a product I highly recommend.  Which is why I am also excited to have them as my giveaway for this hop.  One winner will have the chance to try them out and see for yourself what all the talk is about.

RULES: ONE Winner will be selected.  Winner must by 18 or older, and must have a U.S. Postal Address for shipping.  Your prize will be shipped from Energybits, so winner will need to allow 2-4 weeks for shipping.

a Rafflecopter giveaway
