How to blog when you don't have time to blog

For those who enjoy running and operating a blog, with the hopes to grow it.  We sometimes find ourselves strapped for time.
Maybe there are days or a week where we only have a few minutes a day online, but not enough time to put together a quality post.  Since quality is better than quantity there is really no point to throwing something together quickly for the sake of a post.

Instead, why not take advantage of your great and previous hard work!

I'm going to give you one of my blog tips, that helps keep my page views up.  At times brings new unique visitors to my blog on days/weeks I cannot write an actual post.  Best part is, it only takes me about 2-5 minutes a day to do it.

To do this, you will want to use your social media accounts ( Facebook or Twitter work best.)  But those who have their strongest numbers come from Pinterest they could easily do this there as well.

For myself I find Twitter works much better for me when I do this.  So I am going to use Twitter for the rest of my example.

Go back though your Blogging History and find a tweet that you sent out about one of your popular previous posts through the years.
(Or pre-save tweets to your most popular posts on a file on your phone, to use later if you want to try this.)
When you have a minute, go in and copy a previous tweet or social mention and paste it into a new tweet, and post it live.  Make sure to use great #hashtags

Or take a few seconds longer and create a new tweet and attach a link to your post to it, with some great hash tags.

In fact if you have a couple of minutes, do this with a few of your posts, I do about 1-4 at a time.  Not more than that, so it doesn't look like I am over tweeting during that hour.

(While your at it, take a few seconds to favorite or re-tweet other people you follow, it's always great to do a little networking, because when people see you taking notice of them, they are more likely to take notice of you.)

You could actually do this 6-8 times a day, even if it's the same tweet (just change it a little so it will allow you to retweet.)  Or any time you have a free few minutes pick a new tweet to bring back to life and drive more traffic to your blog.
The best part about using previous tweets, you already have all your hash tags, URL's so it's literally a quick copy and past and DONE!

I know, how simple is that!  I find that when I don't have time to post, it's the easiest and simplest thing to do, that takes hardly no time at all.

What I find is, my page views increase significantly when I do this.
However, don't expect to see lots of comments or any and don't be disappointed about that.  These viewers are not necessarily your normal blog followers, these are those who you're grabbing their quick interest based on your topic or "Call to Action" words you use.  At times I even find they are great re-tweeters too!

Remember, when it comes down to growing your blog, generally page views and time spent on your site mean more to potential advertisers than comments.

If you don't utilize social media, your missing out on a lot of potential viewers.  Which is why I highly recommend growing your social media influence in the ways you prefer best, and the ways that have in the past brought the most traffic to your blog!

  1. Those are some great tips :) I used to be really into twitter but kind of stopped - I need to get back into it! Now that my youngest isn't eating every hour or two I seem to feel like I have a little more time to "work"

  7. I do it all the time, I actually get more page views off one old tweet some days, than I get from newer posts. Give it a try, its so easy and it's kind of fun to re use all the past hard work:)

  8. It's super easy and I love bringing back attention to older posts I spent a lot of time on. You'll have to try it sometime and see how great it works!

  9. You have so many you could do this with. Seriously, I get a HUGE amount of page views just by retweeting old tweets on some of my more popular posts. Besides it is kind of nice to keep getting page views on posts that I spent a lot of time on, long ago:)

  11. I love this tip! Some days (many days?) I just can't find the time to write an article, but it's certainly not hard to find a couple minutes to run through old social media posts. Thanks for sharing this.

  13. This is an awesome tip, Kristy! I honestly would have never thought to do this... I'm still fairly new to Twitter and am still figuring out how to operate it ;) I will be trying this TOMORROW as I am not going to have time to get a post scheduled this evening. Thank you!

  14. Your welcome! I do this all the time actually, and it really does work. Plus it's nice to feel like posts I worked hard on in the past get a little revive:)

  15. I have done a similar thing on Facebook and say something like..."here's a #TBT (Throw Back Thursday) from the archives..." and paste the link. I never thought about doing this on other media networks (duh!). Or if I'm doing an event, I sometimes post "last year's" race recap, etc. and say why I'm going back and doing the event again...and ask if anyone else will be there.

  16. That's definitely helped me as well! On days where I don't have a new post, I tend to just root through my old ones and schedule social media shares of those! :P It helps a lot!

  20. Great tip, Kristy! I'll have to remember this one, especially going into the holiday season when I know I'll have less time to work on blog stuff!

  21. I kinda cheated today and reposted an old post. But, it was still relevant. What a huge time saver, though. I'm not on Twitter {I know I know}. I'm not sure I can handle one more thing. LOL.

  22. I hope you do give it a try, its such an easy thing to do and it has worked wonderfully for me:)

  23. That is actually a great idea too, I have seen throw back posts and I really should give those a try too! There are so many easy quick little things we can do to recirculate old posts that we worked hard on in the past!

  24. I know isn't it an awesome and such a quick thing we can to. We spend so much time on some posts, we might as well keep promoting them!

  28. I did this a lot this past summer when I wasn't blogging as much, and on the weeks when I can only post once, I do it quite often and I really have found if I do it, my numbers stay up. Plus it's awesome to know a post in the past is getting some life back to it again:)

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is not cheating at all! In fact, I have been going through posts I did several years ago when I hardly had any followers, and deciding which ones to pretty much re-create. I haven't started on it yet, but I pulled up a list of 20 that I want to eventually get to. So I don't think it's cheating, it's called smart time management:)
I don't blame you! I have nearly let my FB page go, I keep up with Twitter somewhat, I find I spend most my time on Instagram because I just really like that one. I only wish it allowed us to link our pictures to our blog, if it did, that would be awesome, I would probably drop most my other social media accounts:)

  30. I've found Buffer to really help with this!

  31. I love this! I can do this with co-Schedule and it is super handy! In fact thank you for the reminder- I am going to set up some extra tweets for the weekend!

  32. Ok, so I am definitely running into this issue lately, but I'm not big on twitter I must admit. What are you thoughts about bringing old posts back to life. Say maybe some old posts before I had a good following?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ok, and I just realized you addressed this with HoHo Runs below....sorry!

  34. I have looked into co-schedule and I agree it looks fabulous! Unfortunately it is mainly for wordpress blogs, although I have found a few similar systems that work for blogger, but they cost more than I want to pay. So for now I just have a little spreadsheet and do it this way, maybe in the future when I switch to self hosted I can go more in a co-schedule route:)

  35. I am definitely okay with bring back old posts to life. Ya, I seriously did go through last week and grab about 20 that I wrote 3+ years ago and I plan on re-making them:) In fact, I have a post coming up later this week, if I can find time to get the images made for it. That I am running in spirit of the Grow Your Blog, Hop about how to bring old posts to a new life without hurting your blogs SEO:)
