A Deadly Business by Lis Wiehl

Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by BookLook Bloggers for my review.  I was not asked to write a positive review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Deadly Business by Lis Wiehl is actually #2 in the Mia Quinn series.  I actually didn't know it was a sequel when I started reading it. However,  it seemed like it had its own storyline so that was okay, I felt like I wasn't missing anything and I was able to catch on to everything easily.

Mia Quinn is a prosecutor for the state.  She's trying to keep her family on track after her husbands death, keep the piling bills paid and if that isn't enough her boss hands her one of the more worrisome and detailed cases in the current news.  Mia has to determine if she should charge three fifteen year old boys as adults.  Because the kids joking around turned into dropping a shopping cart onto a woman almost killing her, but possibly giving her brain damage and the inability to walk for the rest of her life.

Mia's having a hard time juggling it all, and nothing seems to be easy for her.  If it isn't one thing it is another.  To top it off, just as she thinks she can't handle anymore, a good friend who is also a detective comes at her with some unsettling news. Her husband whom she and everyone believed died in a drunk driving accident of his own fault.  Evidence comes into play, that not only suggests but may prove that her husband was actually murdered.  Not only that, but information surfaces that her husband was leading a different life than she believed.  Mia then becomes part detective in her own husbands case, while the same time working the high profile case on the boys for the state.

A Deadly Business is full of suspense and quite a bit of mystery.  Things will have you wondering at each turn of events.  Pretty soon all Mia's investigation and poking her nose into places that others would like her to stay out, proves to be more dangerous than she could have ever imagined.  Before long you'll be wondering if Mia's children will be losing a second parent.

This is an adult mystery, and pretty fast paced and quite a good read!  The only thing I didn't like about it, was a few loose ends, but not the ones that I actually thought would be.  Obviously, this was done to leave room for another book in the series.  Which I look forward to reading as soon as it comes out!
