Let me introduce Adrienne - Today's Runner Spotlight

Today is Spotlight Thursday
Each Thursday I spotlight a different runner from around the world.

This week I'd like to introduce Adrienne.
I asked Adrienne, to tell part of her story and introduce you all to her.  So sit back and enjoy and gain some inspiration!

How long have you been running? Or when did you start running?

I started running about 2 and half years ago. I hated running all the way through to my mind twenties, then one day I decided I wanted to set a goal for myself to do something I hated and thought I would NEVER EVER be able to do…run, a 5k! So that in a nutshell is how I caught the running bug.

What has been your favorite race and distance you have ever run?  Tell us why?

My favorite race would have to be the Christmas Story 10k, in Cleveland OH. The course is awesome you get to run through downtown and a few neighboring cities all on your way to the Christmas Story house and then back to the center of downtown Cleveland. Along the way there were signs that had facts about the making of the film along with tons of people dressed up as characters from the movie or just decked out in Christmas like gear! At the end we were given awesome medals and some yummy hot Ovaltine, Ralphie’s favorite (for all the movie buffs out there!) Super fun race through my hometown, the energy was awesome!

If you could run any race in the entire world, where would it be and why would you pick it?

Great Wall Marathon in Tianjin, China! How amazing would it be to RUN the Great Wall?! So yea that is definitely on the bucket list (along with running my first marathon one day)

Do you enjoy running in the spring, summer, fall or winter the best?

Fall is my favorite season over all, and especially for running. We have some beautiful parks here in Cleveland and getting to watch the leaves change color all while running in the brisk, crisp fall air is simply breathtaking.

Have you experienced any trials/injuries/health issues that you have had to overcome?  Tell us about them.

I currently am nursing a bum right foot :( I just injured it on 3/1/2013 while running 4 miles. It is terrible timing, but when is an injury ever good timing? I just started training for my very first half marathon in May, and have been really excited about this 12 week program, so to get an injury this early on sucks. But I am trying to be very positive with the help of my supportive boyfriend and family! I just keep telling myself that at least its early on and not a week before my half marathon!

Tell me what goes through your mind when you cross a finish line?

Pure joy and excitement, a rush of emotions I almost always cry after I cross the finish line. I put my heart and soul in to my training so that finish line feeling is unparalleled!

Do you have 1 favorite thing about races that you love the most?

The energy! The crowd and the runners energy is the best! Running alongside some amazing runners pumps me up and the crowd’s enthusiasm and support is amazing as well. It just makes you feel so good!

What is your favorite kind of running, solo running or running with a friend or group?

Solo running, it is my ME time. The time that I am able to just unwind and think about nothing else

Do you listen to music while you run?  Give us the top 2 running songs on your playlist.

Yes! Top two songs right now:

Applause- Lady Gaga
Latch- Disclosure ft Sam Smith

What is your must have running gadget, or item?

My Garmin Forerunner 10

In your spare time What other hobbies or sports do you love do?

Dance, I have been dancing since I was 3 and still teach dance part time. Dance was always my first love, and it still is!

What type of things motivate you and push you towards success in life?

Goals, achieving things that in your mind you believe to be impossible has always motivated me. When I can prove myself wrong and achieve what I thought to be the impossible it is an amazingly empowering feeling.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for someone who is thinking of starting up running?

Take it slow, one run at a time. Try not to look at the numbers, just get out there and run until you are tired! The speed will come and so will the PR’s!

Any goals you are currently working on, that you'd like to share?

Running my first half marathon, and finishing under 2:20.

On your blog you promote and maintain a healthy living style.  What is one of your best tips for someone who knows they need to change their diet, but doesn't know where to start?

Baby Steps! Get rid of one bad thing at a time, I started with pop (or soda, yes it’s a Midwest thing lol) and that helped significantly! Just try to focus on one goal at a time.

What has been the best thing so far, for training for your first half marathon?

Preparing! Reading up on half marathons, doing research on great running plans and learning all about some really wonderful runners and how they trained for their first marathon. Also I decided to start my blog to document this training journey and since then I have met tons of amazing runners. The running community is amazing and with their support I truly feel like I can achieve anything.

What are a few of your dreams or what is on your bucket list?

Sky diving has to be on the top of my list and hiking through the rainforest, both of those things sound and look so amazing to me! I hope to be able to check them off my bucket list soon.

If you are a race ambassador, do you want to give a shoutout to those you represent?
